Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument

Al and Drew worked with staff at the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument (MEMY) to develop educational resources focused on themes central to the Evers family’s life and work. This includes a lesson plan that introduces younger learners to Medgar and Myrlier Evers and their work in the Civil Rights Movement. They also developed and produced a unit using Medgar Evers and Byron de la Beckwith as case studies for how information received in one’s younger years can impact their beliefs and actions into adulthood.

“Wheat and Gardner helped us reach diverse educational audiences across the state and offered guidance on lesson plans grounded in their own experiences in secondary classrooms in Mississippi.”

Susannah Ural, Director, Civil War and Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi

They took those disconnected snippets and created coherent, immersive, and thought-provoking lesson plans that honored the mission of the National Park Service and the lives of Medgar and Myrlie Evers. I would gladly work with them again on future educational projects. I also recommend them for anyone seeking a team that can handle the “tough history” with consideration and respect for the stories and the communities that were affected.

Keena Graham, Superintendent, Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument
